Server Performance
Well I cut out pretty early last night. Some said it dragged a little while I was playing at the same time. I was wondering how it worked after I left last night. Did very many people come on? Did it perform well consistently? Just gimme a general idea. I might be able to tweak some things and make it better in certain areas.

We were never more than six peeps, on at a time, though there were a few pop-by's. It lagged me a bit, from time to time, but no worse than I've suffered from any pub. It got hanged for four to eight secs a couple of times during the 3 hrs, or whatever, that I was logged on. Aside from that, it worked swell. And Aside from kicking Stang all the time. Well, it DID quit that rude behaviour after a few tweaks, but still...

I noticed my ping was a bit high...
but my dad was playing MoH in the other room. It seemed like a good server. I was playing on my backup machine so things were kind of slow for me. I wasn't getting my usual 130 + fps, and my sound kept cutting out. But from what I saw, the server worked well. I think it started to lag a bit when the sixth person jumped on it. |

Yeah it seemed ok to me, with a little stutter sometimes. I did not notice an increase in performance when you stopped playing.

Btw, how DO you get 130+ fps in Treibes 2? I cope with 50+ fps.

If you want a FPS above your monitor's vertical refresh rate, you have to turn off v-synch. You can get artifacts that way sometimes, tho, during periods of rapid change (like quick turns).

Yep no big problems just when I came in and lagged real bad but that went away.
Seemed to work like a normal server for me. |

Var, we need to figure out how to setup the ports on you computer. I had the server marked as a Fav, but it didn't show up, I did a query of all servers and it was there, the port number had changed.

Actually the server was taken down today so I could get all the gear up on the desk. I'll turn it back on.

My main machine (which is out for the moment) has an Athlon XP 1900, 512 MB PC2100 RAM, an ASUS GeForce3 (V8200 Deluxe), and Win2k. I was using the Det 31 drivers from Nvidia with the WDM codec (I think it was 31.. could have been 32 or something).
Those drivers coupled with the latest patch, put my fps way up. (I was getting 205 fps consistently on Scarabrae indoors of course.. but it would drop to about 140-150 when outside.) My rig is also watercooled. But only because it's too noisy with all the fans it requires with no water cooling. It stays at about the same temperature... maybe a few degrees C colder. |

I knew it was watercooled, but I thought that was because of overclocking, is the system not overclocked and you get those framerates?

Well, my machine outstrips yours by just a little bit, but I still don't get more than 75 fps, when stanidng still indoors. You've got to have done something to your graphics settings, right? And I do NOT refer to v-sync.

GeForce Tweak Utility- All you'll ever need to change those FPS, visual quality, anything. It's got an in-program explanation of every feature you can change, just hover over the checkbox.
GeForce Tweak Utility *After Edit* Scratch that, apparently the GTU no longer supports (officially) anything after 29.60. Well, if you're using drivers older than that, the GTU was the best utility out there.

The watercooling was just because I kept getting BSOD's from it running too hot. That was with an Athlon 1.4 GHz (the thunderbird). Those chips ran hot, and the XP is only slightly less hot. It's not overclocked at all.
I have v-synch disabled in everything. I don't get any glitches. I DO have AA always turned off too. Also, my CPU, Graphics processor, and harddisk were all cooled. (Including the RAM on the graphics card.) I have an ASUS A7V266-E MB as well. My harddisks were in a RAID-0 configuration (mirrored). But one of them died, and the other has a screwed up IDE bus so the drive isn't detected. The RAID idea is good, unless both disks have failures. I also turned down the particle density all the way... when T2 first came out, it was a prime source for UE's. I just left it. I also have my texture compression at fastest. Skybox is on for the sky. For the player+weapons being drawn setting, I have it set to weapons only. The terrain textures are just a hair below max. I have most of the texture stuff turned just a hair down. (If I turn everything to max, except the particle density, I still get 60+ fps easily). I just like the fps up high so that I see everything. I know that the GeForce 4's have similar performance to my card, except when AA is turned on. The GeForce3 Ti's are actually more crappy than my GeForce3 (I got one of the original ones). My card is also 64 MB, so it uses DDR memory where the 128 MB version uses SDR memory. No overclocking on the card either. Also, in my BIOS, I have the AGP aperture set to 128 MB. And I turn off all unnecessary programs (all except my firewall, PC health monitor, and the graphics card monitor). If something overheats, I want to know about it. |
