The instructions specifically say to avoid rechargables. I thought I could get away with it because I got alkaline rechargables, which are supposed to be better for electronic devices and weren't around when my old Palm Pilot Pro was made. The voltage is a little different(lower) between rechargables and regular batteries, not usually enough to notice.
I guess it was different enough to mess up my Palm. Sigh. And the problem with PocketC is that it requires a run-time library to be present when the program is run. OnBoard C produces standalone programs. Not really a problem for the developer (me), but if I choose to distribute any of my applications I want it to be as clean and simple as possible. Sometimes I'm picky. (BTW, does pocketC have a resource editor? For pictures and forms.)

I hate to burst your bubble, but that IS a battery, and a rechargeable one too. However, it is probably a Lithium-ION type, which is the highest technology (i.e. High Voltage, Low Charging time, No Memory problems, stuff like that.) It's also a flat battery like in the World's smallest CD player, which allows the thing to be thin, and not clunky like mine.

Ya, the cradle vs batteries issue is one I have thought about. Batteries mean you have to keep buying them, and throwing them out. One with a cradle means I have to be near the cradle, take the cradle on trips, etc. A little less flexible.
All else being equal, I think I would've chosen the cradle.

Now I have to save up for a keyboard for the thing... I'm going to be using it as my laptop at school, I think.
