Default Massive Assault

Once again, Penny Arcade has helped me choose my next month's worth of gaming. Read the article over there today and Tycho tipped off a turn-based strategy title called Massive Assault. After playing the demo for a mere two hours I purchased a copy. The demo is beefy, weighing in at around 140 megs, but its got a lot of good gameplay in it. It'll serve me well till next Wednesday when the full version should arrive. I was hoping there might be some folks around here who might get into it, so I can have some friendly competition when it gets here.

Also, I picked up a copy of Wizardry 8. It should satiate my RPG needs for a while to come. i don't have any previous experience with the series though, so if anyone has any comments on it they'd be appreciated. It only cost 17 bucks though, so if it turns out to be a bust, no great loss.

The Wizardry series is old old old old school. It's among the first RPGs ever released for PC (Having versions on the Amiga, Apple II gs, etc) and has a neat little system. I know nothing about 8, but I've played a lot of its precursors, and know that it is a good game, you may just need to give it some time to shine.

Default Teh AWESOME!

Okay, quick update:

ALL OF YOU- go buy Massive Assault now. Aside from it being super fun single player, the multiplayer doesn't take any time at all. Since its a turn based game, you challenge someone, take your turn, and it sends it off to the server. Then your opponent gets back to you, you know, whenever, and you play your turn. Its like ye olden days of playing chess via mail. I was hesitant to start up my first MP game today, but after I found out that it works this way, it seems much less stressful.

And Wizardry 8 rocks the casbah. The sheer depth of character generation, again with the turn based combat...I can be in a fight, go make myself a sandwich, come back, and they're still all just waiting there, ready for me to lay the smackdown upon mine enemies.

Two great games for less than 50 bucks. Today is a great day.
