Someone set up us the server...
Why doesn't THZ have any servers for Tribes 2? That's easy! Beacuse they don't own any!
To the point - I got ahold of an old 233 mhz computer. Would it be sufficient to run a dedicated server of Tribes 2, or would i need something more along the lines of a 733????

Yeah, we just havent recruited anyone with the resources yet. We have discussed it, just hard to get it organized. I have enough parts to get a 333 running, but I still dont think that is enough. I dont think that a 233 would work for too many people, what kind of connection would it run on?

I think we have it figured out that we could get a server built, but the problem is an internet connection that can handle the load.

That wouldn't happen to be an Intel Celeron, would it? Maybe refurbished by HP? (... Mazzy, we had the same comps)

Actually for a sever, it doesnt even need a video card, or sound card. Just Case, Ram, Mobo, Cpu, Net card, Hardrive. Doesnt really need drives like floppy or cdrom either.

Although, for ease of setting up software, a CDROM is good, right? THey're pretty dirt cheap right now.

Yeah, my point is that you could take one out of the current computer to temp set up the server then remove it. Most setup can be through networking.

Are you sure it won't suck the life out of your bandwidth? Won't it screw around with your internet connections if you're perma-hosting a game on a server on the same internet connection?

i think it would be a good temporary solution, but when we start scrimin' and get like 30 or more peeps on there.. then well need something with a little more juice in the connection area.

Got bored at work and decided to forum whore a bit.
Mazzy what is your DSL connection gonna be? I'm running 768k x 768k right now and I have a 466mhz celeron spare puter sitting around that I use periodicly. I could easily run a server but we found out with T1 that it isn't very stable with over 6 people. One more question do you need cd to host a server? Last edited by Mobius; 06-04-2001 at 05:26 AM. |
