Someone set up us the server...

Why doesn't THZ have any servers for Tribes 2? That's easy! Beacuse they don't own any!
To the point -
I got ahold of an old 233 mhz computer. Would it be sufficient to run a dedicated server of Tribes 2, or would i need something more along the lines of a 733????

Ghryphen 06-02-2001 10:10 PM

Yeah, we just havent recruited anyone with the resources yet. We have discussed it, just hard to get it organized. I have enough parts to get a 333 running, but I still dont think that is enough. I dont think that a 233 would work for too many people, what kind of connection would it run on?

Aluscia 06-03-2001 04:42 AM

MG has DSL... it wouldn't work amazingly.

Dynomutt 06-03-2001 10:18 AM

I think we have it figured out that we could get a server built, but the problem is an internet connection that can handle the load.

Maz 06-03-2001 12:20 PM

I got an spare 600MHz, the only prob is that it has an on-borad vid card

Aluscia 06-03-2001 01:28 PM

That wouldn't happen to be an Intel Celeron, would it? Maybe refurbished by HP? (:lol... Mazzy, we had the same comps)

Ghryphen 06-03-2001 01:54 PM

Actually for a sever, it doesnt even need a video card, or sound card. Just Case, Ram, Mobo, Cpu, Net card, Hardrive. Doesnt really need drives like floppy or cdrom either.

Aluscia 06-03-2001 02:33 PM

Although, for ease of setting up software, a CDROM is good, right? THey're pretty dirt cheap right now.

Maz 06-03-2001 02:35 PM

I'm currently using my HP which is 533, the 600 is another PC I have, but I only have an 56K connection rigth now, so thats out, but once I get my DSL, I could get one going for you guys

Ghryphen 06-03-2001 02:36 PM

Yeah, my point is that you could take one out of the current computer to temp set up the server then remove it. Most setup can be through networking.

Maz 06-03-2001 02:55 PM

Ya, but my PC already has an MB, CPU, CDROM, RAM, Floppy, onboard sound, onboard video, 56K modem, 10/100 Network card.

So has soon has I get DSL, you guys can get your permanent THZ server

Aluscia 06-03-2001 03:23 PM

Are you sure it won't suck the life out of your bandwidth? Won't it screw around with your internet connections if you're perma-hosting a game on a server on the same internet connection?

Maz 06-03-2001 04:55 PM

It's gonna suck up my upload for sure, but all I need is the download and it's gonna be passworded for sure, and the only one on it are gonna be you guysand you don't more then 15 members anyways.

Dynomutt 06-03-2001 06:52 PM

i think it would be a good temporary solution, but when we start scrimin' and get like 30 or more peeps on there.. then well need something with a little more juice in the connection area.

Mobius 06-04-2001 02:10 AM

Got bored at work and decided to forum whore a bit. :)

Mazzy what is your DSL connection gonna be? I'm running 768k x 768k right now and I have a 466mhz celeron spare puter sitting around that I use periodicly. I could easily run a server but we found out with T1 that it isn't very stable with over 6 people.

One more question do you need cd to host a server?
