Has anyone been following Planetside?

Check out some of the media

Would you pay-to-play? Do you pay-to-play any games? Have they been worth it?

This one looks like I would pay-to-play this one if it is a reasonable price. I have never played a pay-to-play game, mostly because they are usually RPG style games which I dislike.

Well, after playing Earth and Beyond for a short while, and becoming *EXTREMELY* disappointed with pay-per-play, I will examine this with much more discretion... Basically, they nerfed the game with the first patch, and still didn't address the issues the gamers were trying to argue... The dev team of E&B continuously follows its own agenda as far as Game Balance is concerned, and thusly, makes the game more and more unenjoyable. Thank goodness I cancelled my subscription before the end of my free month. I wouldn't have enjoyed paying $64.99 every 3 months for something that took 2 weeks to suck mega-ass.

If Planetside looks good, and the price is right, and a whole wack load of people I know go for it, I just might give it a whirl... But given that it's a Sony Entertainment game, I'm going to be very suspicious of it, simply because of all the terrible things I've heard (and experienced) from Everquest nerfing.

PS - For the uninformed, nerfing means to wreck something, or make it useless/harmless.

Ew pay-to-play, It would have to be a damn good ass game for me to pay. $64 for 3 months? I think for the XBOX pay-to-play its like $49 or somewhere around there and its for a year, I believeand its comes with extra stuff .

Im with you Laur if everyone else jumps in and does it and says its worth it then Ill give it a shot but will be very cautious, money isnt something to screw with.

Why make your players pay? You should be greatful your players bought your game.

It's the cost of maintaining the servers, etc etc.... They're also trying to milk us

It'd be kinda hard to have players supply servers with this type of game. But pay-to-play is a precursor for subscription software.. It's what MS is pushing for.

outfits= clans. Empires determine what technology base you can use.

Sigh. I haven't had time to beta-test a game in over two years. Congratulations, though!

When I started working over in Dallas, I was subscribing to Asheron's Call. It was fun and all, though nerfing and whiners and what-not had made it kind of pointless unless you were either a true role-player or a power-leveler. I ended up not having the time to put into it and canceled my subscription. I got into AC in the first place through beta-testing.

But the education I gained through the experience left me much like Laur. Namely, I'm going to be quite cautious about paying for a subscription to play in a massively multiplayer persistent world of any sort. Though a more direct combat game might work better than a "pure" RPG.

BTW, the XBOX Live subscription is just for the service - the persistent games can (and will) cost extra on top of that.

XBOX is fun though . We got it free for the first year anyways so its worth it .

Thats why you watch what games you buy and try to get them as cheap as you can . Like using your Dad to get games .

Hmm... I actually hope that I 'm not included in the PS beta nytime soon. I've got shitloads of stuff to do in real life, and being up at odd hours playing games online is not one of them, right now.

Now whoring forums with great people on them, on the other hand, is another matter entirely.
