thats what you get for liviong in the most hurricane prone city in the US, you'd think they'd have learned by now
and the best part is that they're still stupid enough to build houses out of wood

aah, american inginuity. of course house in hurricane central are still being made out of wood, it is the most cost effective way to make houses. duh...
it also ensures that each year there is a busy season for all of the construction companies, which means, JOB SECURITY!!!!!!

back in trinidad all structures were built with cement bricks, a hurricane merely meant you should put tape on your windows so they dont shatter and tie down your crap so it does'nt blow away, maybe a powerpole might blow down, or a tree, but hurricanes were a big holiday

I've seen houses floating down flooded rivers. Not cool.
And most people build houses out of wood down there because steel rusts (it's florida), stainless is too expensive, concrete works, but you get cracks and molds if the concrete doesn't settle just perfectly (not good in humid climates), and wood is available and cheap. I suppose you could use that concrete foam stuff, but that's expensive too. And most of florida is just at sea level... so what's the point of having a standing house if it's going to be filled with nasty water, mud, and your neighbor's sewage? |
