Thanksgiving was a month ago, and you don't need a reason to pig, just do it when you feel like it

Heh, true. Especially if what you are pigging out on is chocolate. (Says me who just anihilated a pan of fudge in two days. x) )
Now to go make a dent in that pan of dirty rice, and the rolls, and the ambrosia and the pies (pecan AND pumpkin), and of course that tryptophan laden turkey........ Happy Turkey day!!!! Stay safe! |

I was reading in the paper yeasterday some of the real reasons Americans have Thanksgiving, and it's partly true that the original Pilgrims DID have Thanksgiving celebrations, they stopped, and then during the Revolutionary War George Washington held a Thanksgiving Celebration near Valley Forge, PA as a way to rally his troops through the winter. That tradition continued through Washingtons' Presidency and then ended... Then, Good old Abe Lincoln revived the tradition during the Civil war with a Presidential proclimation, and it has continued on ever since. I had a chance to read George Bush's proclimation, and It was very well written, and it gave the history that I just told you (but mine was a shortened version). This Thanksgiving, I think is a very special one for all Americans, especially for me and my family, as my Brother who is in the Navy ships off for Afghanistan at the end of January. (Don't worry, I don't think he'll be in any real danger, he's a Tomahawk Fire Control Specialist.) So It's nice to see family, and enjoy each other's company for a couple days when the rest of the year is so busy, and it seems like we barely have time for ourselves.
So I'd like to wish a Happy Belated Thanksgiving to all who read this, and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves, and are 10 pounds heavier. -SH
