Trying to electrocute my baby
Hah! Got your attention didn't I? Well the baby in question isn't my daughter, its the other, more expensive baby, my comp here. And the aforementioned electrocution is actually me thinking about stepping up the voltage to the CPU for some OCing. See, I've got a super cool comp with no less than 8 case fans (EIGHT!) and I've never OCed her. I OCed my GF4200 with impressive results lately, so now I want to try on my CPU. I figure worst that can happen is it burns out with that oh so lovely smoldering silicon smell (I've sampled that before, yum), and then I'll just buy the new Athlon ClawHammer anyway.
So here's the question. My BIOS supports voltage intervals of .15 steps. Current setting unfortunately reads "Default" so I don't know where to begin. Also, will tweaking the FSB up give a performance boost? I've stepped it up to 2x270 from 2x266 and not noticed much of a difference in temp or performance. And if anyone knows the theoretical limits of a well cooled Athlon 2100, lemme know. Running at 1.76 now, I'd like to attempt to get maybe 2.0 out of her or more.

What Model is that 2100+? That determines in a big part how fast it can go. If it's a model 6, I don't think so, but if it's a Model 8 or 10, you *should* be able to get there. I got my 2400+ to 2600+ speeds one nite, and I was pretty happy with it. Very stable, etc. But as the CPU FSB increases, the RAM FSB needs to increase as well, to be able to cope with the fater CPU spped.
OCing RAM w/o OCing the CPU won't yeild very big results. the Only way to see how much of a boost you're getting is to run PCMark 2002 and 3dMark 2001SE or 3D Mark 2003. First with Normal settings, then by running it under OCed conditions.

Hmm, not sure where to find that Model #, but SSandra 2002 is telling me its 7th Generation, 6th Revision.
A few more details that may help: I did find my core voltage is 1.79V, seeing as my BIOS only allows up to 1.85 this may be a small step. System temp: 38 C, pretty well below the 50 C "danger level" CPU temp: 61.5 C, again below the 80 C "danger level" Note those danger levels are the maximum recommended temps furnished by my Mobo manual.
