This REALLY got my blood boiling tonight...
Tonight was one of my friend's last days in town. He starts grad school at Brown University in Rhode Island, and we had a going away dinner for him. That was good.
We were at Red Robin, having a good time. My roommate was sitting across from me, and my friend was sitting next to him. There were a couple more friends there, and the rest were people that I had never met before. Anyways, my roommate says to me, "Craw, you know you gotta pay this month's rent, right?" I answer, "No. I don't. I paid last months, and the previous month's. I'm not paying rent for this month, it's your turn." (Right away you could see where this is going...) "Yeah, you have to pay half this month's rent, because you owed it to me." Me: "No. John, I paid up even with you as of February. I'm not behind on anything." "No. You don't have a job. And you owe me." This goes on for about five more minutes... Me, "Who cares if I have a job? I do NOT owe you anything!" John, "Yeah you do. I would bet money on it." Me, "Okay. I'm down for 20 bucks." John, "No. 100 bucks." Me, "Fine then." We shook hands...sealed the deal. The thing is, as of February, we were even on the rent. (We alternate months.) The last rent check is due this month. I paid for the months of March, April, and July. Now by my math, there are six months after February, including August. (March, April, May, June, July, August) It seems that I also paid three months rent out of the six. Now...here's the leap of logic.... John owes the last month. I verified this against my checking account when I got home. BUT... -We were at my friend's going away dinner. I don't think he appreciated our argument being brought up. (Luckily it was towards the end of the dinner.) -I was getting to the point of very mad. It took me nearly a half hour to calm down. -On top of this... my roommate had told everyone that we commonly know, that I had not paid the rent. He was the one doing it, and I was always behind. THE LITTLE F#@$ING BITCH! (Just thinking about it really pisses me off.) Now, he went out to a club after the dinner; leaving straight from Red Robin. I went home and double checked all of this with my bank, over the phone. I also had one of my friends come to my place to verify what I had written down as the bank told it to me. I left a note on his door, before going out with the same friends for some drinks at a local pub...still doing the going away dinner thing. I am not sure what I am going to tell my roommate when I wake up. (Well.... actually, I am sure of what I will say, just not how I will say it.) I see two things happening: 1) He pays up the 100 bucks for losing the bet, and acknowledges his mistake. (I strongly doubt he will tell the people that we mutually know what happened.) 2) He doesn't pay. I don't really mind, because it was money that I never really had in the first place. BUT, I know that I would honor the bet if I lost. No matter what I had to do. Things I know for certain: -If he doesn't pay this month's rent, I will be seriously pissed off. -He has shown his 'true colors' so to speak. I no longer consider him a friend. -I will be VERY glad when I have a place to live in that I can call my own. -It may be tough living in the same place with him for the next three and a half weeks. Well, I had to vent this to someone. What do you all think? |
