boing boing boom
GameSpy: OK, so this is the "jump" tank -- does it work in controllable bursts like the jetpack, or is it just one big jump? How high can it go?
Chris Mahnken: It's one big jump -- higher than me, but not high enough to be called flying. The jump is really just enough to get you past some obstacles; for instance, you might use it to jump a river that you otherwise couldn't cross. GameSpy: Do you have any control over the tank while in the air? Chris Mahnken: You have some control, but not as much as with the jetpack. GameSpy: What kind of falling damage can the tank sustain? Chris Mahnken: That's not set yet. We'll spend time during our beta testing tuning things like that. I'm sure that if you jump off the top of a mesa you'll be able to do some harm to yourself, but how much will depend on a lot of different factors. GameSpy: How well armored is the tank? Chris Mahnken: The tank will be fairly well armored, but you have to remember that our infantry are also fairly well armored, so the difference between the two may be less than you expect. This is yet another item that you can expect to be tweaked during our testing. GameSpy: How is the jump tank balanced among the other vehicles? Chris Mahnken: It is the slowest vehicle, and the most heavily armored. GameSpy: How many passengers will the tank support? What weapons will they have at their disposal? Chris Mahnken: The tank will support two players. The driver controls the main cannon, and the passenger controls the auxiliary guns. GameSpy: What does the turret shoot? Plasma? Mortars? Chris Mahnken: We haven't set exactly what it will fire. Likely a mortar-like round, with the auxiliary guns firing either a chaingun or an anti-aircraft cannon. Again, we haven't decided. GameSpy: When airborne, does the tank remain perfectly level, or can it tilt from side to side and potentially roll over? Chris Mahnken: The tank can tip over, but that's rare at the moment. All of its current movement is subject to change as we go through the testing process. GameSpy: Is it possible for extra players to take advantage of the game's physics and stand on the tank to "hitch," as they do with the Scorpion / Hellbender / Manta in UT 2004? Chris Mahnken: That's not the intention, but we'll see if people do it anyway. We're not going to stop anybody from trying it.
