I've seen houses floating down flooded rivers. Not cool.
And most people build houses out of wood down there because steel rusts (it's florida), stainless is too expensive, concrete works, but you get cracks and molds if the concrete doesn't settle
just perfectly (not good in humid climates), and wood is available and cheap.
I suppose you could use that concrete foam stuff, but that's expensive too. And most of florida is just at sea level... so what's the point of having a standing house if it's going to be filled with nasty water, mud, and your neighbor's sewage?
