I agree that the death penalty should be enacted here... This man had no delusions about whom he was killing. He knew that he was striking fear into the hearts of all the citizens of the area.
That said, look at the situation that might have caused him to snap. People are so quick to dismiss things like "Gulf War Syndrome" as something people should be able to keep within, and anyone who can't is a monster not worth the air he's breathing. Views like that are shallow and callous; they show only how insensitive the public is. I think instead of touting guns around the world, we should begin to look at how these wars have affected our own populace, how "casualties" can't be defined by injuries and deaths alone.
I say we because, like it or not, the foolish Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chretien, has decided to back US foreign policy regarding war with Iraq. So, as far as I'm concerned, we're all in the same boat now.
