college

college is the best thing that has ever happened to me as far as having time to sleep.(*sarcastic smile*). Unfortunatly, i am not going to school to have a nice cushy job like you guys( at least not yet ) i am currently pursuing an ASSOCIATES degree for machine tool technology. in high school, my least favorite class was math class, and i used to get thrown out of my math classes. now all i do is math, Math and more MATH! because of this fact, i have been eating tylenol like it is freaking candy. but i cant really complain all that much, because after the first semester, the program that i am in will find me a job in the field. but until then, i had to quit the job that i was working at. so now i am working a job that has convenient hours. I have to work at the FAMILY DOLLAR making $&@# money. AAAAAAARGH!! :box: :box: :barf :alcoholic :barf :alcoholic :barf :alcoholic :barf :broken: :s0002: :s0002: :hammy: :bubbles: :alcoholic :barf :alcoholic :barf :alcoholic :barf :twak: :twak: :s0007: :twak: :s0007:  :twak: :twak: :s0007: :s0007: :s0004: :s0004: :s0004: :touchmonk :alcoholic :barf :alcoholic :barf :alcoholic :barf :thinker :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:

Maz 07-19-2004 07:09 AM

I hated university for that, taking compter repairs, had like 8 math classes, 4 physics classes, 6 french classes, WTF

yak 07-19-2004 07:26 AM

right now, i have:

1 lathe class
1 milling class
1 intro to manufacturing class
1 math class
1 drafting class
1 self tought math class
etc. etc. etc.

all the while doing math in all of my classes

Maz 07-19-2004 09:13 AM

I had math 4 times a week, physic 4 tiems a week, french 3 times a week, c++ 2 time a week, business intro 2 times a week

so I was interested in 2 out of 15 course a week

insaneferret 07-19-2004 10:21 AM

i'm currently pursuing my bachelor's in kinesiology at Univ. of Houston, i will be doing my last math course, EVER this semester, pre-calculus, oh happy days, i despise math and now am never going to have to see it again, yay

yak 07-20-2004 10:09 AM

so at the very least you understand what i am going through. its just that the last few weeks have just been one enormous strain

KitZune 07-21-2004 01:08 AM

As many of you know, I'm in school to become a videogame designer... although I've been sick for more than a week, and aparently they don't like that so hopefully I don't get kicked outta school.

yak 07-21-2004 08:08 AM

because of the program that i am in, i cant miss any days or i will be kicked out. but i cant complain though, i dont have to pay for the first semester because of the program so i am making out like a bandit.

XMEN Ashaman DTM 07-21-2004 04:34 PM

I love math. :D

Except when it's taught by math teachers. Blech.

Math is so easy when the math department doesn't teach it.

yak 07-22-2004 08:08 AM

the one math class that i have, is a self tought class where all of the work is done on the computer. the only problem that i have is that the teacher that is "in charge" of the class is the largest closet case that there ever has been. he always comes up behnd you and either leans over you, or starts touching you. it is just a serious violation of our (the students) personal space

:hug :touchmonk :hug

XMEN Ashaman DTM 07-22-2004 07:26 PM

Talk to the dean, or head of the department you are in. And tell him it makes you uncomfortable.

yak 07-23-2004 08:21 AM

it all evens out though in the end, as it turns out, some of the other people in the class are "homophobes", and you know what that means. but honestly he has been leaving me alone because of the fact that i have been giving him the stink eye. :rocket2: :rocket2: :rocket2: :rocket2:

KitZune 07-24-2004 02:44 AM

1 in 10 people are homosexual... but I think more like 5 in 10 people are homophobic.... get used to it.

Aluscia 07-24-2004 03:38 AM

bahahaha... Umm.... I love Math :D I just switched from Music to Comp Sci (Hoping to do Hardware R&D)... I may throw in a little bit of Biotech and Psych 'cause I wanna be working on Brain cybernetics.

yak 07-24-2004 07:03 AM

something that i have noticed, is that the people that claim to be homosexual, usually end up turning gay

Ghryphen 07-24-2004 01:54 PM

Seems logical.

Kyrie 07-25-2004 03:48 PM

You couldn't PAY me to go back to University, and I wasn't even taking any math courses. :p A few classes were somewhat interesting, but most were full of redundant theoretical rubbish for students to spew back out during exam time in order to convince themselves that they were being "intellectual". No thank you.

I MIGHT consider College, since it's probably not as full of academic brats, but seriously, cat, not unless I have to.

Maz 07-26-2004 02:16 AM

I agree with Kyrie, University scuks, I went to college, loved it

yak 07-26-2004 08:30 AM

yak 08-25-2004 08:32 AM

i really am not a fan of school. it is not helping that i have the house to myself this week, and i have been having parties nonstop. :redbounce :hawaii: :redbounce

Gambit 08-25-2004 06:06 PM

Ah, thus the puke comment.

yak 08-26-2004 08:09 AM

of course, it all makes sense now. ;)

Aluscia 08-27-2004 06:36 AM

Yak, working Full-time sucks Camel ballz. Seriously, with the sand getting in your teeth and the fleas and all. I *hate* my summer job now, and I'm really to get my M4A1 and mow down my entire floor. School is looking like heaven compared to the prospect of eternal tedium at the hands of my administrator. Factory work was even more depressing! So trust me, enjoy school while it lasts... it doesn't get any better.

yak 08-27-2004 08:14 AM

i know how much that working full time sucks, i am still working full time right now while i am going to school. in my short life, i have already worked almost every sort of manual labor type job there is, i know where you are coming from. im not going to ask about the sand and fleas.

Gambit 08-27-2004 03:17 PM

They relate to the camel balls. :)

Yes, working is often not fun. This is why people either a) tend to goof off and work as little as possible, or b) try very hard to get to a point that working is optional and they can choose when, where, how, and even "if" they work.
Anyone can start their own business, at least here in the States, and this is the heartbeat of capitalism. Working for a wage should not be the societal norm. Though it pays the bills, you can never be paid what your work is worth - otherwise why would the boss hire you for break-even or a net loss on his/her part?

yak 08-30-2004 08:16 AM

id like to own my own company one day, in the manufacturing field.

juxtaposedjoker 09-05-2004 05:01 AM

Maths sux...be english majors! Like me! Though, I think I'm going to change my major to history since I can't spell...

I love my math class though! We are learning what sets are *nods* next chapter is the history of numbers! And every chapter in our book is different so after a chapter is done I can forget about it because there are no midterms or finals!

So yeah thats my math class...then lets see...My soc class is easy...in my speech class we won't be studying public speaking oh no! We will be studying how people comunicate! So our first lesson was to pretend we worked for the government and had to pic 3 ppl who got to live after being released from terrorists and then discuss our value judgements...then my Cinema class rocks...we are just watching movies allllllll semester.

Yes, Comunity College is the 13th grade....

Yak, your parties rock...dance dance revolution with heavy metal and strobe lights after shots! RAWR!

yak 09-07-2004 06:56 AM

Everyone says that, and every time I reply that if that's the case I should shoot myself in the mouth RIGHT NOW. Because post-secondary schooling is ****, you see.

Except that you can't get a loan to start the business because you're either a minority or too busy paying off your tuition, and then if you do actually get the money to start your business you find you can't compete with the Wal-Mart next door and go belly-up.

Boy am I a cheerful bugger tonight!

juxtaposedjoker 09-08-2004 12:42 PM

^^exactly.

XMEN Ashaman DTM 09-08-2004 11:04 PM

You can get a loan regardless of whether you're a minority or paying off your tuition. In fact, some minorities are given incentives to take out mortgages, though the incentives are usually worded so that they apply to people that live in such-and-such neighborhood.

I know that you can get any number of small business grants from your state, and sometimes the federal government, if you plan on starting a business. 10,000 dollars? No problem! 100,000 dollars? No problem! You just gotta have a business idea, a plan, and the 20 dollar fee for the application. I know for a fact that the federal government practically hands money out for small business ideas because it wants to encourage small business and competition. My parents went through this same thing with the state of Washington, and at the federal level when they decided to get a small business going. It didn't pan out, but they've got another idea in the works and they'll just get another grant.

If you're talking loans, anyone will be willing to give you a loan. Mortgages are probably the easiest to get, then signature loans, then larger loans based on capital, and so on. My girlfriend's uncle runs a business where he just buys stuff with loans, then sells it as fast as possible. He makes more than enough to pay off the loan, and the rest is put into their business account. Banks are willing to lend them upwards of 100k, for the right reasons. When my girlfriend and I visited her aunt, uncle, and cousins in carlsbad, CA over the 4th of july weekend, her uncle was talking about making a deal to buy five cars at an auction, then selling them to dealers. The thing was, it was going to cost 10,000 per vehicle and he could easily get 15,000; but only if he bought all five at the same time.

It just takes some patience and willingness to do some hard work for a while. You gotta also be on the lookout for ways to make money.

Oh and for loans, I will have no problem getting a mortgage to buy a house, or any other loan for that matter, even though I have 63,252.75 in student loan debt, 9,000 left on a car, 1,000 on a credit card, and 10,000 in a loan. That's over 80,000 in debt, and banks are willing to give me more. If I told them I was native american (which I am), then they'd probably have a special program or incentives to give me a loan.

You gotta read up on the system to work it. :D
(As soon as I can, I'm getting a house through a foreclosure, with two mortgages to avoid PMI. Then I'll fix it up (I'll make sure to get one that only requires cosmetic stuff), and either hold on to it as a rental property, or sell it when the housing market turns up. But I'm getting a house while it's in foreclosure because I don't want more than a 100k mortgage (total), and I'd like to get one that has some equity in it after the sale goes through since it's extremely hard to find a house for less than 200k out where I'm at.)

juxtaposedjoker 09-09-2004 09:41 AM

(snip)

Holy Jesus! I was mostly being tongue-in-cheek but okay! :)

I can't argue with the examples you put forth as they were mostly based on the experiences of people you know. And I was joking around with my post, but seriously, maybe my view of capitalism is a little more cynical than yours. As far as I know, if you have a bad credit rating or if you don't have a steady income it's pretty impossible to get anywhere as far as loans are concerned. Hell, if it were so easy to start your own business, why would anyone work at McJobs?

Ah well... you may well be right, I've just had it hammered into my head many many times that I'm destined for a life on the mean, mean streets. :p
