here's the badge btw for anyone that wants it; dump it into the Homeworld\Bin\Profiles\Badges\ folder, and it will show up in the selection screen the next time you play multiplayer or a skirmish.

Also, for fans of the franchise, how can we forget Kiith Somtaaw? I tossed that one in too :)

Whats that from? Awesome we have our own building now! :D

That's from one of the Homeworld games. Man, I love HW.

Now I'm hearing that eerie music with the vocals from the first game...

"AAAahhhhhhhhaahhhahhahhhAAAHHHHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH......"

Raiyven

hehehe, it's Agnus Dei if i remember correctly, but i dont remember the composer. Where's Aluscia when you need him?

hmm... SiFi, i already asked you, but... what's more amusing. seeing a superior fleet mop the floor with someone else,or watching two resource controllers duking it out with their piddly cannons?

SiFi
10-04-2005, 09:58 PM
Oh, the superior fleet one ;P
The composer of Angus Dei was Samuel Barber

i just reinstalled the original HW on Pollux... having some graphics issues in the build menu :(

I didn't realize, until i started it up, the engine tweaks that were made with Cataclysm and HW2... the polygonal LOD per unit alone is a vast improvement

Gambit

Yeah. And I really don't think the original HW vocals track was Agnus Dei. Sure doesn't sound like what >I< have heard as Agnus Dei, but then I may not have heard it all.

Raiyven
10-05-2005, 08:55 PM
yeah i know what you mean, i've heard Agnus Dei done a couple of different ways, this one included. whatever it is, it's purty :)

SiFi

In the original Homeworld credits, that song is credited as Angnus Dei, composed by Samuel Barber. There's also an arrangement for string orchestra thats almost as good.

To make sure we're on the same page here, we're talking about the song that plays the first level (training), third level (destruction of Kharak) and 16th level (Hiigara). The one that's solely vocals, and what I consider to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music in the woirld :) Both versions that I have are over eight minutes long.

Raiyven

yup, that's the one :)
I wonder... would it take away from the original splendor of HW to engineer the original game as a TC for HW2?

SiFi
10-07-2005, 07:15 AM
Not that much. The engine tweaks alone are worth it.....though I like multiple build and research queues from HW. Though having two fleets with identical abilities can get boring. I suppose it's all in the tactics. (Scout sting, to distract. Now, 400 salvage corvettes, go!) :)

Raiyven

lol. not completely identical, don't forget, the field frigate and hive frigate! ooooooooo! the two most useless frigates in the game, unless you take the unit cap off :p

though, the nice thing about salvage corvettes is that they're much easier to pick off than a marine frigate... and they're not armed, either.

Though it is fun to watch someone try and make off with your destroyer, knock two of the corvettes off, and watch the other three spin it around in circles :D

and who can forget the Kamikaze command? 400 scouts, ramming speed!

SiFi

A destroyer takes three salvage corvettes, frigates two, and carriers and heavy cruisers five. Trust me on this one :)

And I developed the "everything of yours soon will be mine" playing style on the 14th level of HW, where there's the sphere of 200 or so ion cannon frigates that are just the perfect distance apart to capture one by one. :)

heh personally i liked (i think it was) missions 5-7 or so? Bridge of Sighs was one of them, i remember, i REPLAYED it enough times. Those Multi-Beam Frigates, hoooo... picked up four or five of those and managed to keep em' till the last mission. came in handy with that goddamn rock they throw at you in 14

SiFi

Who needs frigates with more than one beam? That's what the 200 ion cannon frigates are for. Then the rest of the fleet distracts the enemy while my salvage corvettes kidnap them all :)

you and your sallies. need i remind you of the ball o death i usually had around my mosho?

it's just not the same in HW2... as i recall my last minefield led to an hour-long standoff broken only by a lag drop :p

SiFi
10-10-2005, 10:13 PM
hehehehehehe yup, and the next game we played, high unit cap and no cap ships, I build nothing but minelayer corvettes :P

Raiyven
10-11-2005, 06:38 AM
yeah, it's because of that i changed my tactics ;) when the game lags because of all those mines moving at once, it's like a friendly heart murmur telling me to cut back on my caffeine. started SC again, Sam Fisher is my friggin hero.

btw, when are you free next, post-saturday afternoon? (test at 2pm. yes, on a saturday)

Sorry for not catching this sooner.

The song is actually pretty famous... Adagio for Strings, Samuel Barber. I've heard everything from realllllllllly slow performances, fast performances, techno, DDR, and this.

Sam Fisher is everone's hero (exept when Garret is), and his lines just keep getting better :) Hurry up and finish the game, I want to infiltrate CIA headquarters again :)
