Just dropping a line to let you all know that I will be gone for about a week and a half. I won't actually leave until early Monday morning but there will be no time to post then and I won't have a computer with me any where.
This Saturday my older, and only, Brother is getting married in Silverton Colorado. I will be one of the Grooms' men. My Brothers life long best friend got the position of Best man. I will be there for three or four days before diving back to Ohio. So I guess I will have to get use to having a sister-in-law. I don't get to see my Bro much since he still lives in Texas, so I look forward to spending time with him.
See you all in a couple of weeks.

Back. It was wonderful. The beautiful mountains as the back drop to the outdoors wedding. Got sunburned but it was worth it.

mmm... I can imagine how wonderful it would be to make love with the mountains as a backdrop... the escarpment near us is similar, but not the same.

Sweet!
Hope you didn't hook up with a gal at the wedding, only to find out that she's your cousin on your dad's side of the family from his aunt's second marriage...
If you did that, you'd be the first person I know. :D

Didn't hook up with anyone there. Also not that many of my side was there because of the distence. They have something against anything outside of a 5 county radius of Lima. There was a cute woman on the Brides side and a friend of my Bother and Sister-in-law that also cought my attention. The only problem was basicly everyone already had a dance partner.

Actually, the only reason NOT to marry a cousin is social pressure. Genetically, the risk of "bad stuff" happening due to that amount of inbreeding is very very small.
Assuming, of course, that the family doesn't make a habit of the practice, and you're cousins from multiple directions at once. :D

I should observe that Queen Victoria is a famous example of a person marrying a first cousin and producing a large family with said cousin-9 kids total-all of whom survived to adulthood, none of whom had any noticeable genetic problems except one. That one was son # 4, who had hemophilia as a result of a mutation in Victoria's genes, which had nothing whatever to do with her reproducing with her cousin. /soapbox off
Welcome back, dude. :)

ah, Queen Victoria. one of Britain's more frumpy queens. Empress of India, never even friggin went there.
Inbreeding was common in the Hellenistic era, however politically motivated it may have been. Particularly common was between brothers and sisters, of note Ptolemy II Philadelphos 'the brother-loving' marrying his sister Arsinoe (recorded as Arsinoe II; he previously married an unrelated woman also named Arsinoe, whom he packed off to an island somewhere to marry his sister), arguably to maintain a pure-blood dynastic monarchy begun by his father, Ptolemy I Soter 'the saviour'.
However, the successor Ptolemies got worse in political and military tact, and sadly the last true Hellenistic kingdom eventually became an inert political entity, saved time and time again by Rome's intervention against succeeding generations of Seleucid rulers.
Or maybe it was something in the water :) /shrugs
