You can download the demo here on the site, please support the site by using Shareaza :D

You will still download directly from the server, but, additional sources are showing up on Shareaza and you could add to your download speed and shave off a few megabytes of download for our server at the same time.

To many bugs in the game. When I refresh for servers the damn thing will lock up or when I change something in options. Once I'm playing it runs great but some times the damn thing looses connection to the server also. :(

still a good alternative is the Red Orchestra TC for UT2k4, which in itself is incredibly detailed both graphically, technologically and historically for a mod. SiFi and i are the THZ representatives on the servers... mostly SiFi, and i have a habit of ruining THZ's reputation there as a group of above-adequate gamers ;)

Its a good break from playing WoW all the time. Your not the only one Fallguy everyone I think gets that dropping from the server crap. But what do you expect its a demo.

I don't like the interface very much. Can't find friends, when you join a server and it does its little updating thing you have to click again to get into the server and then click AGAIN to get into the game to actually play it. Then you have disconnect to get out of the server. Whats up with that?! If I get booted or kicked from the server it should just do that not have me click again to disconnect. As far as the game play its fun when you have people you know to play with.

Me and Gryphon are also representin! Ugh now if they only had a buddy list. But hopefully our friends we know will have server so then maybe we can find eachother :).

Make sure to unblock it in the SP2 firewall settings. Also make sure that your sharaza port is forwarded through your router.

I downloaded it straight from FileShack. Took a little over 30 minutes, which I thought was pretty nice. Played it a lot yesterday, and I really like it.

A lot.

It is a first person shooter, I thought everyone knew what Battlefield 1942 was, this is the next incarnation. http://www.totalbf2.com/features/screenshots/

I am hosting a server now, "Allied Tribal Forces" ip "64.246.50.71".

nm - the game is coming out in a week. We will see how many of you will be playing, and then I'll decide if I'm going to pick it up.

Just got it d/l'ed tonight ( didnt notice your pm untill afterwards gryph :P ) and it took nearly 2 hours off ea's site.... i was surprised and annoyed but w/e i have it d/led...

Anyway i was lookin at the server launcher everything seemed to work alright, im actually runnin a server just to check out the settings and junk at the moment...

Problem is everytime i click the "Play BF2" shortcut or the part in the program files... it just like takes the screen black like it is about to load.. and then im like sweet !!! and then it refreshs like back to my desktop...

I just can't figure out why it wont come up ?? Any ideas ??

EDIT: Hmm just thinkin, that it was prolly vid card problems :-P i have a default one still installed on this new computer :s0004: i actually have to buy a new one cause, i've just read over on the soup forums my G3 wouldnt work :-P damn

Yeah, the video card requirements are pretty strict. I don't think a generic card is going to cut it :(

Gambit

According to someone on the LoS forum, it's the pixel shader 2.0 requirement. In any case, you're not going to play with less than a 9600 or FX5700.

Here's the LoS thread with some minimum cards and pricing:

Get the Radeon 9600 XT... I think Kitz and SiFi have it, and it's a *very* good card for a low price.

*edit* I have a 9800 Pro (128)... I'm not so impressed, but more because I think it's showing its age. Next upgrade I get will be PCIE, but since that will require a complete overhaul of my comp... I'm not in too much of a rush. Waiting for Intel 64-bit architecture to be readily available/affordable... I am not impressed with AMDs, and have never been sold on their "We put gamerz first!!!11!!1111" stance.

Ya I have the 9600 XT, I really like it.

FWIW, I have an AMD 64 and like it a lot, no problems. Doesn't run as hot as the P4, too.

The other major feature I'm waiting for is SLI for Radeons... once that happens, it will be a bigger push to pick up a PCIE system (or, if I can get over my fear of nVidia after their benchmark falsifying)

It's already happened. Those motherboards and cards that will be running Crossfire (ATI's SLI) are being shipped later this year. The boards are being spec'ed and designed right now. Some samples should be ready in a couple months and we'll see anand, tom's and others with reviews then.

Should be interesting because ATI is saying that Crossfire won't lock people to ATI only.

Lol, I feel dumb since this is prolly a simple question that is stumping me.... but...

I was lookin around on Gamestop just to see Battlefield2's prices and they had a dvd and a cd versioin both for the computer... which should I get and what is the differance between the two ?

I figure one is for the dvd rom and other isnt but whats the diff lol

Gambit
06-18-2005, 08:17 PM
The difference is that you don't have to swap out 5 (or whatever) CDs to install the thing. I wanted the DVD version of UT2k4 for this reason, but the stores were sold out and I had to get CD. :(

Sometimes there's bonus material on the DVD version, but I don't think BF2 has any.

sh@rp
06-18-2005, 10:39 PM
So here's what i got from that... :-P

The cd version is like my T:V with 4 or so discs...

The dvd version is one disc that go's in the dvd rom ?

If it is that simple the dvd version is mine :-P

I'm not. However I'm getting very (VERY) tired of "apostrophe abuse" and I'm seeing more and more of it.

The rules for apostrophes are very simple:
1. Use them to replace missing letters in a contraction. "Can't" is "cannot," "don't" is "do not," etc.
2. Use apostrophe-s or a trailing apostrophe (if the word ends with an s) to show possession on a noun or pronoun. "Julie's car" (the car belonging to Julie), "the boy's bike," and "Shamus' kilt." ;)

That's really it. Here's a couple of ways apostrophes are misused:
1. Do NOT use an apostrophe on an already possessive pronoun, like "his," "hers," or "its." Note the difference between the possessive "its" as in "its very nature," and the contraction "it's" that replaces "it is." This is the most common and understandable form of misplaced apostrophes.
2. Do NOT use an apostrophe to make a noun plural. More than one cat is not "cat's", they are "cats."

"Go's," used above, doesn't count as a contraction. It doesn't even save a keystroke.

Aluscia
06-19-2005, 01:17 PM
hehe.... Well said (I expected no less).

an addendum - In the case of the possessive apostrophe, if the word ends with an s, you simply put the apostrophe. "Jesus' blood" "Pius' frock" etc.

So my Geforce 4 Ti 4800 Se can't cut it? (proper " use?)

Aluscia
06-19-2005, 09:41 PM
/golfclap Yes, you did well. As for your GeForce 4... It was competing with the Radeon 9xxx series, so you should be ok. check for the vertex shading requirement

Gambit
06-21-2005, 03:46 PM
Nope, a Geforce 4-series won't cut it. Sorry. Minimum supported card, according to the readme in the demo, is a Geforce FX 5700.

I'm not happy about it, as the 4-series are very capable cards for running almost anything, but they don't have the pixel shaders needed. :(
