Script, Mod, Utilities, add-on

AHHHHH! My brain is going to meltdown!

1) What is the differeance between a script, a mod, and an add-on
2) How do i go about making them
3) I saw a really great pack on a Homelan server, anyone know where to get them (or what i need to make my own)
4) Do we(as a tribe) want to start working on some of this stuff?

Thanks,

THZ*DeLukas

It would be great if we had an in-house scripter/modder. Some knowledge of C++ seems like a good start to this.

A Script usually adds functionality to an existing action. Like auto switching to the next weapon when you are out of ammo.

A Mod actually changes characteristics of the game, like infinite jetting, rapid fire, and new weapons.

An Add-on, can be things like new game types, like Defend and Destroy or Duel, where the server is not modified. These are add-on mission types.

Of course Utilities are things like Notepad, Winzip, and the like.

http://www.t2mods.com is a great place to find mod info, though the forums for Tribes are rather lacking in traffic.

http://www.planettribes.com/depot is a script database that also links to some scripting tutorial and info sites. *edit The site really seems to be b0rked at the moment.*

I have created a few compilations of scripts for Tribes 1, I may again for Tribes 2.

I personally don't like too may mods. TAC is about the only one I like. I am a script junkie though, I try almost every script released at least once.

I know Jester would like to see a THZ soundpack produced :lol

I have 3 been programming is C for about 3 years and in C++ for about 6 months. (had two years of Turbo Pascal before that)

As soon as I find some information on getting start (I have no idea where to begin) I will see how much i can learn and start playing with the system.

It appears to me that most scripters learn from looking at others scripts. Or the game files. I have learned a little by digging into the scripts myself, and I have no coding background.

My God, Delukas... You put me to SHAME! I can't do anything technologically oriented... you're an even more important addition to the team than me! GO TEAM GO! It would be cool if we had our own scripts, or even our own mods...

but it would take way to long.
