It's not a burn unless someone else says it is. You can't say your own comment is a burn.

It's like laughing at your own joke... that doesn't make it funny, only when someone else laughes.

I stopped buying milk cause I would drink like one glass full or have one bowl of cereal and then it would be so long before I had more it would go bad.

The only thing in my fridge now is Soda Pop and Beer :p

At least we learn objective history and proper geography...

DeLukas
06-23-2001, 08:03 AM
Nothing is ever objective.

Well sense Canada never plays an important role in any part of history (other then as british lap dogs) I guess they might.

:) Now you insulted my land and I insulted yours. We are even :)

Maz

You don't see any commercial on TV about people being proud of being americain, so it proves that Canada is better and superior:D

PS - At least we didn't cover up the biggest war loss in history... and we burned the white house down twice... beat that, biatch.

No we just fight our own wars (and everyone else's) fight each other, and completely ignore our own Constitution. SIGH.

I know EXACTLY what Mazzy is talking about, because my dad is an aviation buff, and my Grampa worked on the prduction line... Have you guys ever heard of the AVRO arrow? It still is considered to be the world's most advance plane. Now, I don't know exactly about the killing and burning, but I DO know the American government forced the Canadian government to discontinue production because of fears of us having a more powerful Air Force.... Check it out some day. It's a big story of political scandal, and Deiffenbaker is the biggest idiot we've ever had as a Prime Minister.

DeLukas
06-26-2001, 07:45 AM
Checked it out. Here is the information on the AVRO arrow homepage: http://www.maverick2.com/arrow_history.htm

The Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow

One of the finest achievements in Canadian aviation history, the delta wing Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow was never allowed to fulfill its mission. Its role was to replace the Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck as a supersonic all weather interceptor. A source of national pride, the Arrow incorporated advanced technical innovations and became a symbol of Canadian excellence.

The Mark 2 production version of the arrow, powered with two Avro Canada Iroquois turbo jet engines, would have been capable of achieving Mach 2 with full military load. This aircraft was a culmination of research and development unprecedented in Canada's aeronautical history. Thousands of people witnessed the first flight of the prototype flown by Chief Test Pilot, Jan Zurakowski, on March 25, 1958.

For various reasons, mostly due to high costs, the Federal Government cancelled the Avro Arrow program on February 20, 1959. Almost everything connected to the program was destroyed. Fortunately the forward fuselage of the first Mark 2 Arrow was saved and is on display at the National Aviation Museum in Ottawa. There are also some portions of the wings and control surfaces at the museum in Ottawa.

Hmmmm, don't see any cosperacy theories there. It says high cost.

Lets go fishing again: http://exn.ca/flightdeck/arrow/destruction.cfm

The rationale and circumstances behind the destruction has remained mysterious to this day. Though everyone knows that all the prototypes were cut up for scrap shortly after the project cancellation, (besides the legend that a single Arrow got away) a culprit is noticeably missing from many accounts. Traditionally the blame has rested on the shoulders of then-Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, but in recent years new evidence has made finger-pointing more complex.

Another culprit for the arc-welding atrocity got the spotlight in 1988 when Pierre Sevigny, associate defense minister in Diefenbaker’s cabinet from 1958 to 1963, came forth to tell his version of the story to the Canadian press. The 80-year-old said he wanted to set the record straight and to clear Diefenbaker’s name. He laid the blame squarely on the shoulders of Crawford Gordon, the mercurial, hard-drinking boss of A.V. Roe company, a bitter personal foe of the Diefenbaker’s.

Why?

The decision to reduce the project to scrap was a result of military security concerns. In retrospect it may seem strange to destroy advanced technological secrets simply because a project has been delayed or cancelled, but a closer examination shows that the decision is pretty consistent with the rest of the affair. Cold War paranoia was a very real thing, and unless a sensitive piece of technology could be thoroughly protected, it couldn’t just be left lying around. While the Arrow was clearly an advanced project, it seemed to have been conspicuously bereft of any friends who would be willing to spend the necessary sums on its maintenance. Its name, it appears, was mud.

Nope, still no USA involement. Just some bitter old Canadian men and Cold War paranoia on their part.

One more time maybe? http://members.tripod.com/fastboater/arrow.htm

Frustrated Canadians had long looked for scapegoats in the demise of the Arrow. Often fingers were pointed at the U.S. saying that the United States had some political reason for encouraging the cancellation of the CF-105 program.

Recently released documents show the opposite, in fact. It is reported that the U.S. Government of the day, although not willing to buy any Arrows themselves, had offered to purchase some and then give them back to the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force.) There is no doubt that the Canadian politicians of the day found this politically unacceptable. I wonder in retrospect, why from a purely financial view, this was not done.

Look! Final a website that has something about the USA in it. . .oh wait. . .it says we supported the project and yall just needed a scapegoat.

Feel free to browse the The Avro Arrow Webring : http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Hangar/1313/webring.htm

But i did not find anything saying the USA killed the project.

P.S. Or any people for that matter
