What to play the duel mod, but not good a dueling? Well it may not be that you are not good at dueling. It may just be speed is not one of your talents. In one on one combat a heavy can quickly fall to a scout or assault suit because of their speed. So here are some rules to even up the odds.
1 Shield Pack Only: This will protect you from the attacks you will receive. It will give you almost 5X as much damage even if you are under constant fire. Be sure to let it recharge a little once it drops. Remember there will be about 2 seconds in a match where you cannot hurt each other. Do not activate your shield unit the blue flashing on the screen stops.
2 Weapon Layout:
a. ELF: Start with this. Charge your enemy ELF blazing. The will (90% of the time from what I have seen) Try to jump over you. Just keep the elf on them. Remember there will be about 2 seconds in a match where you cannot hurt each other, but you can still drain their power.
b. Chain Gun: This will be your “bread and butter” weapon. Most people say close in a duel and this will rip them apart
c. Spinfuser(sp): You can never go wrong with the little blue disk of death. However the Chain gun will be more effective.
d. Mortar: At some point someone is going to get the great idea they want to snipe you. It’s ok. Just keep your shield up. Duck behind a ridge and pop up with full power (shield on) and start placing your mortars. (Not a close range weapon EVER!)
e. Missile Launcher: Where does a scout or assaults speed come from? Jump Jets. At some point they are going take to the sky and that is when you whip out your Missile Launcher and finish the battle. (Not a close range weapon EVER!)
3 DO NOT USE YOUR JUMP JETS! This will only take power from you shields. Stay on the ground and keep that chain gun firing. They will run and jump while your shields take the damage. This does not mean stand still. The shield can take a lot of grenade and chain gun hits (they do very little to it) but DIRECT blue disk and plasma will quickly take your shields down. It is the “splash damage” of these weapons that will do the most of the damage to your shields. However as long as you keep running you will not take many direct hits.
4 Adjust your tactics. The enemy is never the same. They change little things in hopes of finding a weak point. You have to make sure you are ready for what they are going to do.
5 You will rarely get overwhelming victories. It will almost always be close, but we wanted to even the odds so the heavies could stand a chance at close range. Remember the repair kit you carry and use it when the time is right.
