CHARLEHORSES!!!!!
I always get them in the lower back of my leg. And this morning I had the worst one I have EVER had and it SUCKED!!!
I probably scared the crap out of Gryphon :lol. Just laying there and all of a sudden Im turning on my other side and BAM! the pain hits! I jump up and then Gryphon jumps right after. I grab for my leg but cant touch it cuz it hurts so bad and he cant touch it cuz Ill kill him :).
So we are both grabbing my leg and I can hardly breathe cuz of the pain and tears building up :cry . Must of took me 5 mins to get my breathe under control. Now for rest of the day I try to walk it out but its still tensed up so cant do much today :(.
THEY SUCK! Why do they have to hurt so bad?!:cry

You getting enough calcium? Cramps are one symptom of calcium deficiency.
ugh those are the worst Stang!!
try drinking lots of water and maybe a banana or something ;)
{shouldn't this be in the bitch pit?}

HAHA I TOLD YOU STANG!
She wouldn't believe that I knew it was a Calcium or Potassium defiencency :lol
I think a Bannana is high in Potassium. But I think Gambit is right, it is Calcium that is needed.
Hehe I was right I was right :lol

Cravings are a good way to find out what's wrong with you.
Cravings are a way of your body letting you know what it is that it needs right now. So If you're craving bananas, eat them cuz you might be potassium deficient.
I have similar problems... so I crave chocolate and I can't like my chewing-on-plastic habit because of it.
Try eating junkfood constantly for weeks... you'll start craving healthy food... it's kinda fun.

Stang, next time that happens, have Gryph grab your leg (seriously, don't kill him!).
Gryph: when you grab her leg, make it straight and hold it there, then push the toes of the foot that the has the charlie horse in towards her knee. Then slowly rais her leg off the ground (if she's lying on her back), while keeping her other leg on the ground. Bring it up about 6 or 8 inches off the ground and, while keeping it straight, swing it away from the charlie horse. This will stretch the muscle out, and keep the leg from being stiff and sore for the rest of the day.
Then make sure that Stang eats a banana (or drinks a glass of orange juice, which actually has more potassium than a banana), and gets some calcium. I like to get the minutemaid orange juice that has added calcium. Then make sure she drinks one equal-sized glass of water for how much orange juice she drinks, or how many bananas she eats. (If she gets a calcium source, make sure she eats a banana with it.)
And if you eat foods high in sodium, your body won't be able to absorb the calcium and potassium that it needs. Especially the potassium. The sodium will also cause your body's cells to become dehydrated, as your cells secrete water into your blood to balance the high sodium.
The cramps will never happen again.

Oh and it's a deficiency in any of: calcium, potassium, sodium, or water that can cause cramps. Drink plenty of water, and eat your bananas and oranges, and drink milk or something with calcium!

When you notice it, Stang, try to arch your toes backwards (Like Asha said)... It helps get things under control faster.

I love milk and drink it all the time, Mmm milk :). I use to like Minute Maid but hate it now, dont know if they did something to it.
Ill scream my head off at him :) and dont want him to touch it at all. He tried to touch it last night and I screamed cuz I knew it was going to hurt cuz earlier I tried to touch it and it hurt. I havent had one in a long time either and when it did come it hit hard :). I have tried moving my toes but they get very stiff and makes it hurt even more.
Does annemic have anything to do with it? I was annemic a few months ago but got back up to a good level.
Thats for the advice Asha Ill try it :D. Not sure about Gryphon touching me though unless you want to see a red mark on his face :D.

Being anemic might be a problem... but it wouldn't affect how your body transmits nerve signals, which is regulated by the amount of sodium, potassium, calcium and water is in your nerve cells. At least that's what I can see from what I know of anemia. Get some iron!
You take supplements, right?
And whatever you do, do NOT try to touch your leg yourself. You will use muscles that affect the cramp, and you'll just make it worse. (Unless you are like me, and force yourself to move to stretch things out while hurting so bad you shed some tears.) Just bring your toes towards your knee, like Kit said. Let someone else stretch it out for you. That's the best way for a charlie horse. If it were your calves, quads, or hamstrings, you could do it yourself (with some pain from having to move). But a charlie horse requires someone else to do it proper.

Supplements are soething that you can continue to take, to maintain a healthy level of whatever it is you're taking. If the body is healthy, and you're taking supplements, the exceess will be removed from the body naturally.

Unless it's an insoluble vitamin like vitamins a,d,e,k. They are metabolized by the body, not excreted. That just means that you have to watch it with how much you take. And I know that vitamin k will thin your blood.

Oh. Any particular place it has to be in order to be called a charlie horse?

Yep. On your thigh. On the outside. Sometimes on the rear or front, but always towards the outside.

Incidentally, I got the *WORST* type of muscle cramp ever.... one that I felt for days. You know that muscle under your chin? The one you use to suppress a yawn? Well, it decided to cramp up and I thought I was going to die because my mouth refused to open.

Ouch! I've sometimes been troubled by cramps in the calves, waking up in the middle of the night screaming in pain. I'm somewhat prone to cramps, it seems. It's been a while since the last one , though.
