On Roger Dean: Really nice design on the house.. I'd certainly love to have one of those myself. Nice and round and smooth, yet functional.
On the pipe-tunnel-house: Now that is really neat. I can think of a few locations around here where one of those could be built above the water table and near the top of a rise. If it could be sealed properly, it'd be a great house for this area.

What happens if your internal plumbing springs a leak while you're away? :lol
Though I suppose that could be applied to ANY underground house.

Can be applied to any house, period. :) Remember the story I told you about the neighbor's water heater exploding a few weeks ago?

Well, underground houses have to be watertight, because you don't want groundwater seeping in when it rains. Normal above-ground houses aren't, and will generally allow the water to get out somewhere...

Hmm...
Around here you just have to seal the concrete on the foundation. That's all they do when they build a house is seal the concrete so water doesn't seep into the crawlspace. For houses that have basements, they seal the concrete foundation and floor as well. I think they also add a vapor barrier of some sort.

He is talking about internal plumbing flooding the house. Though I think drains would work.

I know.
If you seal it, the water won't get out.
And if you seal it your structure would still be sound... Though I'd advise figuring out why the dang thing backed up in the first place.
