 Enjoy yourself, will you?
Of course it isn't nice to ask a lady her age, but I must admit I am wondering. How old are people around here anyway?
Since I'm asking, it would seem unpolite not to volunteer my own age. I'm 22 and proud of it. Or maybe not, but hey, who cares?

Stang: Happy b-day. I suppose I shouldn't call you boobalicious on your birthday, right?
Laur: Yeah. I think he is. He called me an old man, once. That was before my birthday last month!
(I'm 25)
(Oh, and if you are wondering about why there was no post for my b-day: the boards were down the whole weekend.)

Oohh! It's great, I can tell you that much without spoiling anything, I think. Saw it yesterday myself, and *god* I liked it! I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it too. :D
I just stepped back into my apartment after being to an awesome concert downtown. Andreas Scholl, a german counter-tenor did a few pieces of Händel with The Gothenburg Symphonic Orchestra. Yes, counter-tenor, that's a male singing somewhere in the register of your average female alto. At least he looked like a male. I might have been mistaken, though. Anyway, he was phenomenal!:worship:
If any of you are into 18th century (baroque) music, you actually ought to check this guy out. Thinking of buying the record soon. Could perhaps share a few mp3s if anyone's interested.

:P Hate to break to you (And many others, tee-hee) But I'm also a countertenor :D I'm studying music and hoping to perform (probably... haven't decided yet). Yes, that means I'm male, although most of you have prolly guessed it? Yeah, I've heard Andreas Scholl before, he's pretty cool... What did he do by Handel? Might have been something I've worked on before!

He did "G.F.Händel: Water music; Arias from Xerxes, Rodelinda, Giulio Cesare." A little bit of this and a little bit of that, mainly. It was beautiful, however, all of it. As is typically the case for all of the music of that age, I think.

Hahahaha.... ahh... /me sighs... It's all so difficult! Especially if you start getting into Bach arias! Man, 7th leaps suck hardcore. Giulio Cesare! I worked on an aria from that last year... Let's see if I can remember what it was called.... hmm.... Drat, can't find it :(
Water music is for instruments only, ne? Or is that just the overture?

I like the music from that period especially well.
Bach's Double Violin Concerto is one of my faves (even though I can't remember if that's from the same period or not... I knew it once.)

Water music is instrumental, I think, yes. The main attraction actually only was on stage for three or four pieces. The arias, I presume.

Anything by JS Bach is of the era :D All of the double instrument concertos, or concerto grossos, are AMAZING!!! My fav is by vivaldi, which I will attach here :D Oh wait, it's like 400000 bytes too big... fuu :( I'll figure something out...

The one that I REALLY like is Vivace. The two violins play both with and against each other, but in harmony. It's totally amazing to just try and follow one violin through the piece, then try and follow the other.
:D
I didn't know that there were more of the concerto grossos!? Can you point me to some, Laur? I do prefer string instruments though. Unless there is just a badass flute one out there. (I also like the Lost Woods song from the Legend of Zelda from N64.)
I also like Spring: Alllegro by Vivaldi (yeah, I know it's probably overplayed).
It's funny though. When people look at me they don't think that I love classical. They assume that I'm into the overplayed "teen-anger" type music that is out there now. My boss heard me listening to some Vivaldi, and told me that he would have never guessed in a million years that I liked classical music of any sort. I also like Celtic, techno, and music that just sounds "rich". Like there is a lot of meat to the song that is being played. Heh. Go figure I guess.

My favourite classic piece of music is Johann Pachelbels Canon in D-major. He lived between 1653 and 1706, however, so he's a bit earlier than these others you speak of. That's what I call rich and beautiful music! *mmmm* Makes me go :gryph17:
Otherwise, I listen to anything that has a good melody and a nice sound. Good description, eh? My taste in music is unclassifiable.

Oh! I forgot to mention that I absolutely HATE country!
Aluscia
12-21-2002, 06:59 AM
lol... No Pachelbel fits right in, although he's honestly one of the One-hit-wonder guys... all the rest of his stuff is pretty base. Yeah, there's tons of crazy ass stuff in the Baroque era... Bach's Brandenburg Concertos (which are concerti grossi), The four seasons (which you know of), and a whole slew of concertos that everyone seemed to be writing. Look for A. Scarlatti, A. Corelli, Legrenzi, or if you like vocal stuff (I absolutely love the polychoral motets and grand concertos), Schütz, Carissimi, Handel, Purcell... And, last but not least, if you're into Baroque organ music (which is really the **** of the ****), Buxtehude, Telemann, Bach, or any of those German guys... They really had their stuff together :D
Hope that helps, Baroque music lovers... Once again, as soon as I can figure out my webhosting, I'll put a couple of mp3's up for you to check out :D

Ok... here they are:
www.thzclan.com/hosted/laurelin/Bach-Preludeina.mp3
(Bach's Prelude in a Minor... it has a fugue to go with it, but it is much longer...)
www.thzclan.com/hosted/laurelin/Chopin-RevolutionaryEtude.mp3
(Chopin's Revolutionary etude.... it almost sounds like a whole orchestra is playing, with all the notes the pianist has)
www.thzclan.com/hosted/laurelin/Vivaldi-ConcertoGrossoing.mp3
(Vivaldi's Concerto Grosso in g Minor.... My favourite concerto grosso up to now... Mind you, I'm trying to find lots more to compare :D)
Enjoy :D
PS - I'm well aware that Chopin is late Romantic.... However, the piece is freakin amazing!
