I have noticed lately that when you go to a movie they like to play commercials before even starting the movie previews, WTF?

I dont pay $7.50 a person to go to a movie theatre and watch commercials on a huge screen when I can see the same ones at home!!! What do they think something is missing cuz they are on bigger screen? If they are going to add 5 mins. of commercials then bump down those prices damnit!!

I go to a movie to see a MOVIE not commercials!!!

$7.50??? We pay $13 here.... it's gross. Yes, the ads before the previews before the moviesa are terribly disconcerting...

The Commercials are ad revenue for the Theatre, and it keeps the concession prices a little lower. A Theatre does not make any money on the sale of a ticket. All their revenue is from the Ads, and from Concessions.

They take 5 minutes.

They're not THAT painful... I don't watch TV very often, usually these commercials are new to me.

I rarely go to movies.
I prefer to cuddle up with the wife in front of the T.V and the fireplace.
Besides cant get kicked out for petting too heavily in public then.. :nono :couple: :hug :baby:

Not 5 minutes at the movie we gust went to. It was probably 15 or 20 before the movie started. The comercials did take about 5 minutes, but at 30 seconds a piece, that is a lot.

Thats the point they dont need to be at the theatre, keep them on the tube but not when I go and spend money to watch a movie on a big screen.

Good point, your not spending 7.50 to watch NYPD blue, so I can live with comercials. What they should do is started charging movie companys' to play their trailers.

KitZune

They already make money on trailers... but there's only so many trailors that you can put infront of a movie before it becomes blurry which movie it is that you came to see.

Commercials help keep theatres in business. (period) They are there to make sure that the theatre can grow and be prospurous so that it will be there for you to enjoy when you want to. Frankly, I don't mind the commercials because they don't take that long, they can inform you of something you didn't know about... and very often the ones at the theatres are different than the TV ones.

If you're REALLY bored with it, just talk with the person beside you or yell out things to insult the companies in the commercials or something, occupy your time. No one cares if you talk during the frickin commercials. If you're really impatient, come to the theatre a little bit later (buy your tickets earlier) and buy some food or something, by the time you're in there the commercials are over.

Bottom line... I am willing to sit through 5 minutes of commercials before the trailers if it makes my nachos cost less than $5

But that's just me... I understand that there are people who absolutely hate commercials, and commercialism.

I always try to buy my goodies at the store before going in. Wear some baggy clothes or a coat, and you're good to go!

I don't mind the commercials, I usually get there late enough that I miss them. (About 5 minutes after the movie 'start' time.) Then some previews and on to the movie. :)

I hate commercials, I am very rarely influenced by sales pitches by commercials. And dancing nachos and raisonettes don't give the the urge to buy concessions for that matter as well, if I want concessions I'll get it before I sit down. Wonder how many people sit down, see a dancing Coke and go, mmm I'm thirsty, or omg I forgot a Coke, better head back out to the 10 cash registers I totally didn't see on the way in.

:lol Yeah, well... I guess I shouldn't complain about any of this too much... I totally agree with Kitz, since the local theatre pays my Sister to floor manage, and lets me in for free when I go to see a movie with her... As for the ads, Kitz and I usually just made fun of them. Like the Movietickets.com, or whatever... I always mention that the kid that tripped in one of the earlier ads, the one they said "Leave him" about, has never returned.... Pretty macabre for a bradybunch family, ne? And what's up with the Axe effect? "It's ok that you forgot my birthday, I'll still jump your bones..." What? What woman in her right mind would say something like that because of a cologne? That's retarded...

Anyway, I'm sure you all know what I do when I go to the movies now... All I have to do is remember to pee after drinking 2 litres of water and ordering a bladderbuster 3000 at the front desk... Red Dragon almost made me wet myself.

The commercials they play up here are the ones you see on TV, like car ads. Im not talking about the trivia ones and movie mixed up words to spell the movie name those are cheesy but are fun to mess around with when you have a group.

They really need to change up that stupid rollercoaster ride thingy that plays right before the movie starts, that thing has been around too long! They should update like every year at least.

The commercials/movie trailers they play before the actual movie has gotten pretty out of hand.
You really don't need to get to theater until like 15 mins after the start time.
I'm always freakin' out that we are going to be late but when we get in there it's started and we STILL end up sitting thru 5 million previews.
With kids it's really hard, they want the movie to start and instead they have to sit thru a bunch of crap.

Hey Gryph.. guys have way different hormones.. YES I have been triggered by advertising to buy something. It happened all the time when I was pregnant. I would see an oreo commercial and go "OMG I AM BUYING SOME TOMORROW!". Same w/ Dr. Pepper.. I never drink it or buy it for that matter but that salsa dancing one would come on and I had to have it!! :lol

:slow: I would show up later for the movie, but then you dont get the good seats :D

Spinning Hat

I've never found a seat in a theatre I liked.

Aluscia
11-10-2002, 05:26 AM
SH, have you ever been to a theatre with stadium seating? The one here in Burlington is just installing it in its 12 theatres, and the view lines are perfect... While there are some not so good seats (the far sides), every seat is good in the sense that you have a perfect view of the screen.

Spinning Hat
11-10-2002, 11:02 AM
Yeah, I have... Most seats do not compare to the comfort of my couch...
