Hey man,
I need some kind of news posting software. I want to be able to turn over the website for my son's Cub Scout pack to anyone and have them be able to post news items on the homepage.
Uncle Gryph, could you recommend something? Their webpage is hosted with Tripod. I believe they have CGI available.

I am on the search ;) I would recommend NewsPro, which is what we originally used on the THZ site, and now on the DTM site, but the creator for NewsPro has dissapeared, and the site is now down. Many of the supporting addon sites are wondering what happened. So I will find you a good alternate program ;)
Do they have a forum? Do they wish to have a forum? This could help maybe finding one that has the news integrated to the forums. What is the address for the site? If I saw it, it would help me find something that fits well. You can PM me the addy if you don't want to post it.

They don't have a forum. They use E-mail to communicate. It would probably be asking too much to get them to use a forum (they're pretty non-technical and would be scared of a forum).
I really just need an idiot proof way for them to post their own news items to their homepage. I haven't put much time into it up to this point, so I have just been hand hacking the HTML and putting their news items into a table.

Do you know if Tripod allows SSI?
Also, here is one you may want to take a look at, the news posting is remotely hosted and you place it on your news page via a line of javascript.

Yeah I looked at that one also as it seemed to be second to NewsPro, but it seemed a bit complex for what you may need.

Mwahahahha.... your pitiful plea has been moved to a less-read forum so nobody looks at it... mwa.... mwahahahaha
Actually, I moved it because I felt that people who could help you out, RJ, would be more inclined to read it... For example, I learned nothing/cannot help you reading it where it was in the main forum...
If I've made the wrong decision, Gryph will move it back... he always stymies my attempts to wield power, :lol.

He left it in his pocket and Mrs. Jester ran it through the wash. She likes to dry things on Extra High Heat in the dryer. Sometimes, things shrink... :D

The double-entendre.... :lol... Mind you, all I really think about is sex, so it's not hard for me to misread that.

Well,
Greymatter does not work with Tripod...period.
Enews gives me a wierd error...I may look at it some more.
The myscripthost thing worked for a little while. When I tried to post a third news item, it hosed up. I'm still working with this one.
Any other suggestions on News and Headline management code are appreciated. :)

I think that Tripod is going to make it hard to find something. Most news program write data to a file, then you use code like < - insert data.here - > on your news page. However I don't think that Tripod supports it. What you would need is something that generated the whole page, menu and all.
The myscripthost one works cause it uses javascript to display the news and doesnt require any special server side stuff from Tripod.
If possible, or practical, you may want to look into some cheap hosting, or maybe use something like ezboard and create just one forum as a news posting utililty.
There was another service like myscripthost that I am trying to recall, give me a bit more to see if I can remember it.

Actually, I figured out a work around to adding more news items. I added dummy news items and then went back and editted them to add the real content.
It works for now. We'll try that for a while and see how dependable it is. :)
