Or if you want real torture, think of Christopher Lee (Saruman in the films). He's been a Tolkien fan since the 1950's and has read the books every year for all that time. That's torture. Of course, he got to be in the films.

Christopher lee is awesome... I wish I could be Saruman... only I'd do things better.. I'd totally burn down those ents before they even had a chance to storm my tower... Mwa ha ha... who needs forests anyway?

It wasn't just the ents. In the book the ents got most of the trees of Fangorn to besiege Isengard. Saruman didn't really have the oomph to burn an entire forest down on short notice like that.

(Besides which, that much fire would've made the air around Isengard unbreathable due to smoke or oxygen deprivation.

But I would have slash and burned them MONTHS ago... progress is all that matters... isengard would have had a whole array of awesome ballistae and siege towers... there would be no stopping me.. hell I'd even take on Sauron and keep the one ring for myself.
