My daughter

...Came home from school today with a nice shiner (should be a real beaut by morning) and a pair of broken glasses because some kid hit her in the face with a rock. Said kid also tried to weasel out of trouble by making Bitty promise not to tell on her. >:

Best part of all this, you ask? NONE of those supposed to be supervising on the playground caught the girl who did this. The classroom teachers didn't notice our kid not wearing her glasses, NOR did they notice the bruise on her face. NOT ONE of them. Mind you, since she is partly deaf and wears hearing aids, she is required by her IEP, which means required BY LAW, to sit on the front row of her classrooms so she can best hear the teacher. And nobody noticed one stinkin' thing. My kid could have lost her eye, if you please.

Oh yeah, I'm going up there to talk to the principal and anyone else I can get hold of tomorrow MORNING. Mad doesn't begin.

I hit a kid in the head with a rock once, I ran away and hid in the woods for 3 hours before going home and finding his parents at my house.

XRogue 02-21-2007 08:34 AM

Yeah, but at least you went home and I presume, 'fessed up.

Talked with the principal this morning and stirred the antpile. We'll see what happens.

Ghryphen 02-21-2007 10:45 AM

Yeah, it came out ok, it was a rock fight where we were throwing rocks back and fourth at each other over a creek not really trying to injure each other.

XRogue 02-21-2007 11:12 AM

Yeah, well that's not what this was. :(

Stang 02-21-2007 02:36 PM

Thats pretty messed up not one person saw what happened or even your daughter after the fact. I hope someone gets caught for not doing their job I mean come on your suppose to be watching these kids not just teaching them. Keep us updated and hope your daughter feels better :(.

XRogue 02-21-2007 05:48 PM

Well I do have a little update. Some kids were there and saw it, so we got witnesses and an ID on the other kid. And it wasn't the usual people supervising their recess, but the PE coaches. And I got an apology for them not noticing the bruise, but geeze Lou-eeeeze, people! It's a bruise near her eye, I know kids get bruised and scraped, but yah need to check it out. :( She's feeling ok and healing nicely, no dizziness or headaches, but it coulda been so much worse, yanno?

Raiyven 02-21-2007 08:02 PM

X I totally agree with you. I'm glad to hear your little one is making out okay. But this is beyond reproach, I actually felt sick reading this, I really did. This used to happen to me when I was your little one's age.

Honest to god, she wears glasses and got a rock? She could've lost her eye! Can they not expel the kid who did it??

Aluscia 02-22-2007 04:06 AM

Poor girl :( I'm sorry to hear about that, Rogue, but glad to hear there doesn't seem to be any serious/permanent damage.

I had kids push/trip/beat me on the playground all the time. It's really easy for teachers to ignore/not see it. Broke my wrist twice on the same playground (once in the winter being pushed on ice, once in the summer being tripped in a game of bump (pickup basketball shots)) and no teacher saw/did I thing until I ran up to one with a messed up hand : /

XRogue 02-22-2007 07:22 AM

Thanks for the sympathy, both of you. It does help, really. :)

I know it's easy to overlook this crap, but geesh. Her setup is such that it's easier to notice, not harder. This makes me queezy. She easily could have lost an eye, luckily it seems to have hit on the rim and popped out the glasses lens, rather than shattering it. In this case, the glasses may have helped prevent something worse.

Why do people ignore this crap?

Raiyven 02-22-2007 08:49 AM

I really hate to say it, but sometimes I wonder if it's the teachers themselves simply not wanting to do anything about it. I contrast this incident and many from my childhood (I was the fat kid. When you're the fat kid, everyone's against you) with a few my fiancee had dealt with in her classroom this year. She let *nothing* past her, and meted out discipline, whereas some instructors really couldn't care less.

Hey guys, let's all get together and send X and her lil one some flowers :D

Aluscia 02-22-2007 09:40 AM

... or a new pair of glasses? ;)

XRogue 02-22-2007 03:01 PM

All it took for the repair was snapping the lens back into the frame. No problem there, didn't cost a cent. Lens wasn't even scratched.

Now, Laur, if you mean we'll get up a pool to buy glasses for the teachers (who obviously NEED them) I'm down with that. ;) I'll even contribute. Well that and a good kick in the rotunda for each. :p

Swear, what does it take? Raiy, I'm glad your fi is a good disciplinarian. Thanks for the good thoughts all.

Raiyven 02-22-2007 04:32 PM

Instead of flowers, we could always go after the teachers, we few against all of them, Thermopylae-style ;)

Gambit 02-22-2007 04:41 PM

Actually, the lens is slightly scratched and the frames required tightening. I've done that many times in my life for my own glasses, but was never hit by a rock.

(Did have a few bully incidents, though. Me=nerd.)
